Proactive AI - We’re shifting from explicit tools to proactive AI agents that augment human thought. True hybrid thinking requires continuous context capture and a high-bandwidth interface to the mind. Smart glasses are perfect for this: they see what we see, hear what we hear, and can modulate what we perceive.
Underspec - To stay under 40 grams and last 8+ hours, all-day smart glasses must remain low-power. They can’t run heavy applications natively - MentraOS bridges that gap.
Memes Matter - Smart glasses will redefine how ideas spread. Current algorithms amplify outrage and ads. MentraOS gives each individual control over what ideas they transmit and absorb.

Spatial Augmented Reality
HUD (heads-up display) smart glasses will be as big as smartphones, and spatial augmented reality (AR) will be as big as the internet. Spatial AR is the next phase of the internet - merging the digital and physical worlds. HUD glasses enable semantic AR, modifying thought and conversation through an overlay interface.
Spatial AR will come later - when glasses understand their physical surroundings. For now, lightweight HUD devices already unlock enormous potential. MentraOS evolves with this timeline. It solves today’s HUD problems while advancing toward full spatial AR and eventually brain-computer interfaces (BCIs).
